Greenbrier working to preserve history while prospering
GREENBRIER, Tenn. (WKRN) — Preserving Greenbrier’s history while growing is a goal for city leaders. According to the U.S. Census, 6,898 people call the city home, the average median household income is $82,308 and there’s a 69.6% employment rate.Mayor Lanny Adcock is a proud, lifelong resident who has spent decades serving the city in various capacities. He told News 2 he never would have thought of himself as mayor, but after serving as County Commissioner, he felt prepared for the job.“When I was a kid there were 900 people and now there is about 7,000 people,” Mayor Adcock said. “I’ve always heard that if you’re not growing, you’re dying, and we’ve grown quite a bit.”News 2 On Tour | Explore the communities that shape Middle TennesseeOther proud residents include Ms. Maryann Partain, who is a volunteer at the Greenbrier Historical Society Museum and Library. She decided to call Greenbrier home 40 years ago.While she doesn’t necessarily like the rapid growth, she believes new residents are welcomed by the numerous church events.“I think you can meet people and there’s such kind people here,” Partain said. “Sometimes in big places you don’t get to know them, but we have a church on almost every corner people you can meet people, which helps.”Community-based growth is a goal for the city as they want to keep residents involved. Currently, there are three large scale social events that help keep residents engaged and active. Rumble in the Brier Car Show, Trunk or Treat and the newest event is BBQ and Bags on Sept. 20.
